This rug is knotted in the village of Hosseinabad and its surroundings in north-western Persia. The patterns on the carpet is often from the so called Herati-type, inspired by older Farahan carpets. The carpet is thick and rough, and are all part of the group of Hamadan carpets.
The Hamadan carpet is knotted in 500-600 villages in an area surrounding the city of Hamadan in northwestern Persia. Every village or smaller group of villages, has its own obvious distinctive character. The carpet is generally very colourful and made with good quality wool. They are easily recognized with their typical patterns and sizes. The patterns are very varying and the medallion as well as carpets with repeated patterns occur. Among individual patterns the Herati is the most common pattern. Colours are dominated by different nuances of indigo blue , madder red and terracotta . Older Hamadan carpets can be very attractive products and are considered antique pieces. Hamadan carpets are manufactured with a roppy, shiny and  natural dyed hand spun yarn, that provides a very durable surface and beautiful colour scale. Common for all these carpets is that they are nowadays made on a cotton warp with one weft. The patterns are mostly geometrical, but floral motifs also occur.
