DESCRIPTION:
Mehraban is a group of villages north of Hamadan. Of the 61 villages in this group, 57 are devoted to making rugs according to the traditional techniques: symmetrical knots, single weft, high and shiny pile thanks to the excellent quality of the local wool. One noteworthy feature of these rugs is the use of a very twisted cotton yarn for the warp, which makes the underside rough. These rugs are made in large sizes and runners, and the typical pattern is the early 20th century "American Sarough" floral spray, in bright colours: usually various shades of pink, azure and orange.
