This rug is knotted in the holy town of Qum in central Persia. The wool used is known as cork-wool and it is sheared from the neck of the lamb. This makes it possible to spin the wool extra thin, thus leading to durable threads which make the carpet very tight. The carpet is extremely well-made and in some cases very detailed. Gardens, medallions or figural carpets with plant and animal motifs are common.
