DESCRIPTION:
The name “Gabbeh” from the Persian language means (raw, natural or uncut) which represents a rough and primitive rug with patterns mostly made by Ghashghai nomads from the Farsi province in the southwest of Iran/Persia. Gabbeh is a hand-woven pile rug characterized by an abstract design that relies upon open fields of colour and playful geometry. These rugs are woven by tribal women and are principally used as “bedding blankets' by the nomadic tribes of the Zagros Mountains or Iran/Persia.
Gabbeh rugs are manufactured by hand-spun wool, both in the pile and warp, and the yarns are dyed using plant and root dyes. The rugs are much thicker than other Persian carpets, sometimes up to 2.5 cm thick.
Gabbehs simple and colourful design is being used in many areas of interior design for homes and offices, with their majestic beauty that enhances any décor.
