DESCRIPTION:
This carpet is knotted in workshops in the city of Nain in central Persia, near Isfahan. The carpet is generally very light with a cream-coloured or deep-blue bottom colour and a large medallion in the centre. High knot density and high-class material give carpets of high quality. They are manufactured in most sizes and the carpet is among the most beautiful in the world and very popular among collectors.
Rugs from this city have a high reputation and are very popular. A material, as well as the workmanship, is of the highest class and the knot density is high; often more than one million knots per square meter. The material in the more exclusive carpets consists of wool on a silk wrap or silk in the warp as well as in the weft and pile.
Patterns with a medallion in the middle together with arabesques and floral motifs are common. The similarity to carpets from the nearby city of Isfahan is remarkable.
