Sabzevar is a city in the Khorasan district in north-eastern Iran; rugs made in roughly 200 villages in the area are collected and sold in the bazaar. The workmanship of Sabzevar rugs is similar to that of the rugs made in nearby Mashad, the motifs are floral embellished with medallions with large pendants. The colours are very bright with red and blue as the dominant shades.
RUGS WOVEN BY NOMADS: Nomads move continuously and do not stay permanently in one geographic region. They weave handmade carpets on collapsible looms. Due to that fact there may be slight variations in weaving and the different shades of wool with sometimes uneven in shape giving it a real feeling of a genuine nomadic handicraft. The weaving is made from memory and it depends on each artisans momentary inspiration. The workmanship is of high quality from hand spun wool to preparing the natural dyes from organic plants and roots to dye the wool in different colors in preparation for weaving. Persian Handmade rugs have a timeless appeal which transcends the whims of fashion, and are one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly flooring options available. Each unique design represents the artistic vision and fine craftsmanship by the hand of the weaver.
